How long it takes
Processing times are set by the issuing government, not by ClearForTravel. There is no single answer: how long an application takes depends on your destination, the type of visa or travel authorization, your nationality, the time of year, and whether your application is complete and accurate. Two travelers applying for the same destination can receive very different timelines.
Typical ranges (illustrative, not guaranteed)
The ranges below are general illustrations only, not promises. They are meant to give you a rough sense of scale. Always check the official government portal for your destination for current, authoritative processing times before you rely on any figure.
- Electronic travel authorizations (eTA, ESTA-style): often minutes to around 72 hours.
- eVisas: typically a few business days to around 2 weeks.
- Traditional or consular visas: often around 2 to 8 weeks, sometimes longer.
What can cause delays
Several common factors can push a decision beyond the usual range:
- Incomplete, inconsistent, or missing documents.
- Peak travel season, when application volumes are highest.
- Public holidays in the issuing country.
- Additional security checks or administrative processing.
- Payment issues or failed fee transactions.
Apply early
We strongly recommend applying well before your intended travel date to allow for any delays. As a general rule, do not book non-refundable flights, accommodation, or other travel until your visa or travel authorization has actually been granted. An approval is never guaranteed, and timelines can change without notice.
